Why Payward-backed Reap is betting on non-USD stablecoins for 24/7 cross-border FX settlement

Reap, a fintech firm backed by Payward and Visa, is expanding beyond dollar-pegged tokens as it prepares to launch a Mexican peso stablecoin and explores digital versions of other national currencies to enable around-the-clock cross-border foreign exchange settlement.

A Move Beyond the Dollar

While the stablecoin market remains overwhelmingly dominated by dollar-pegged tokens, Reap is charting a different course. The company is preparing to introduce a Mexican peso stablecoin while actively studying the potential for tokens tied to the Hong Kong dollar, the euro, the South Korean won and the Japanese yen.

The strategy reflects a growing conviction that stablecoins can serve as more than a substitute for the U.S. dollar. • Exploratory work on Hong Kong dollar, euro, won and yen tokens
  • A focus on 24/7 on-chain foreign exchange settlement

The Broader Stablecoin Landscape

Reap's bet arrives as regulators and financial institutions worldwide intensify their scrutiny of stablecoins, with several jurisdictions crafting frameworks to govern their issuance and use. A more diverse set of currency-backed tokens could reshape how c
