Standard Chartered sees Ethena’s USDe reaching $40B, ENA hitting $2

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Standard Chartered has issued a bullish forecast for Ethena, projecting that its synthetic dollar stablecoin USDe could balloon to $40 billion in circulation while its native ENA token climbs to $2 by the close of 2028.

A Bold Outlook on USDe Growth

The British multinational bank sees significant expansion ahead for Ethena's USDe, the protocol's synthetic dollar product. According to the projection, the stablecoin's supply could reach $40 billion as the offering continues to attract users and capital across the decentralized finance landscape.

USDe differs from traditional fiat-backed stablecoins by maintaining its peg through a delta-hedging strategy that combines crypto collateral with derivatives positions. That mechanism has helped the product carve out a distinct niche among dollar-pegged tokens, and Standard Chartered's analysis suggests there remains substantial room to scale.

The bank envisions USDe swelling to $40 billion as Ethena's synthetic dollar model gains further traction.

ENA Poised for a Sevenfold Climb

Beyond the stablecoin itself, Standard Chartered expects Ethena's governance token, ENA, to appreciate sharply. The bank forecasts the token rising roughly sevenfold to hit $2 by the end of 2028, a move tied directly to the growth of USDe and the expansion of token buyback activity.

As the protocol scales its synthetic dollar supply, increased revenue is expected to fuel more aggressive buybacks. Those repurchases could tighten circulating supply and support upward price pressure on ENA over the multi-year horizon the bank outlined.

The forecast underscores a growing appetite among traditional financial institutions to model the trajectories of DeFi-native assets. Key elements of the bank's thesis include:

  • USDe reaching a $40 billion circulation milestone
  • ENA appreciating roughly sevenfold to $2
  • Expanding token buybacks driving value accrual

As with any long-range crypto projection, the estimates hinge on continued adoption, favorable market conditions, and the protocol's ability to sustain its peg through varying environments. Still, the endorsement from a major global bank signals rising institutional confidence in Ethena's model.
