Ex-FTX users report funds being released in $900M distribution round

By Priya Chen · · 2 min read

Former customers of the collapsed FTX exchange say they have started receiving payouts as the estate's latest distribution round, worth roughly $900 million, gets underway to reimburse creditors for losses tied to the platform's 2022 implosion.

Payouts Begin Flowing to Creditors

Multiple ex-FTX users have reported that distribution agents began releasing funds this week, marking the fifth round of repayments in the ongoing effort to make creditors whole. The disbursements are being handled through partner platforms tasked with processing claims and transferring money to eligible account holders.

The latest tranche continues a phased approach that the FTX estate has followed since emerging from bankruptcy proceedings. Creditors whose claims have been verified and who completed the required onboarding steps are among the first to see funds appear.

After years of uncertainty, some FTX creditors are finally watching their long-frozen balances turn back into cash.

What Creditors Should Know

The repayment process has been staggered across several rounds, with distributions tied to the size and category of each creditor's claim. Users have been required to verify their identities and select a distribution agent to receive their share of the recovered assets.

A recurring point of frustration among creditors has been that reimbursements are calculated based on the value of their holdings at the time of FTX's collapse in November 2022, rather than current market prices. That means claimants receiving repayments today miss out on the substantial appreciation many cryptocurrencies have seen since then.

Key details creditors have highlighted include:

  • Payouts are based on 2022 valuations, not present-day crypto prices
  • Distribution timing depends on claim verification and agent selection
  • Funds are routed through designated third-party platforms

The Long Road From Collapse

FTX imploded in late 2022 amid revelations of misused customer funds, triggering one of the most consequential failures in crypto history and the eventual criminal conviction of founder Sam Bankman-Fried. The bankruptcy estate has since worked to recover assets and return value to those affected.

Each successive distribution round represents incremental progress toward closing out the massive creditor pool, though the process remains gradual. For many former users, the arrival of funds offers tangible relief even as debates over valuation methods persist.
