Crypto job postings triple to over 1,200 in September, but applications fall

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Crypto job openings surged in September, with more than 1,200 new positions posted across the industry — roughly triple the volume seen in previous months — even as the number of applications for those roles declined.

Hiring Demand Rebounds

The sharp rise in listings signals renewed confidence among crypto firms looking to expand their teams. Finance, engineering and trading emerged as the categories driving the bulk of hiring demand, reflecting companies' continued appetite for technical talent and professionals who can manage increasingly complex market operations.

The jump to over 1,200 postings marks a significant shift from recent hiring patterns, suggesting that employers across the sector are once again scaling up after a more cautious period.

Companies are opening their doors wider, but fewer candidates are walking through them.

A Puzzling Applicant Decline

Despite the uptick in available roles, the number of applications submitted fell during the same period. The divergence points to a potential mismatch between the opportunities on offer and the pool of candidates willing or qualified to pursue them.

Employers appear to be prioritizing specialized skill sets, with certain blockchain platforms topping the list of requested competencies. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana ranked as the most frequently sought blockchain skills among the new postings.

The most in-demand areas included:

  • Finance and treasury roles
  • Software and protocol engineering
  • Trading and market operations

What It Means for the Sector

The combination of rising demand and falling applications could put pressure on firms competing for scarce talent, particularly those seeking expertise tied to the leading blockchain networks. If the trend continues, companies may need to sweeten compensation packages or broaden their search criteria to fill the growing number of open seats.

For job seekers with the right technical background, the current environment may present an opening — a widening gap between the roles available and the candidates chasing them.
