Bitcoin Suisse, one of Switzerland's oldest crypto financial services firms, is preparing to cut as much as half of its domestic workforce as it relocates a significant portion of its operations abroad in a bid to lower costs.
Restructuring at Home and Abroad
The company plans to shift work out of Switzerland and toward lower-cost locations as part of a broad reorganization of its operations. According to the plans, Bitcoin Suisse intends to reduce its Swiss headcount by up to 50%, marking a substantial pullback in its home market.
As part of the shakeup, the firm is closing its IT site in Copenhagen while continuing to operate its existing hub in Bratislava, Slovakia. The company is also establishing a new operational center in Vietnam, a move designed to further trim expenses as it consolidates technical and support functions in more affordable regions.
The firm is trimming its Swiss roots as it chases cheaper operations overseas.
Cost Pressures in a Competitive Market
The restructuring reflects mounting pressure on crypto service providers to control costs amid a fiercely competitive and often volatile industry. By moving work to locations with lower labor and operating costs, Bitcoin Suisse aims to strengthen its financial footing.
The changes underscore a broader trend among crypto companies seeking to balance their presence in established financial centers like Switzerland with the economic advantages of operating in emerging markets.
Key elements of the reorganization include:
- Cutting up to half of Swiss-based jobs
- Closing the Copenhagen IT site
- Maintaining the Bratislava hub
- Opening a new center in Vietnam
For Bitcoin Suisse, which has long positioned itself as a pillar of Switzerland's crypto ecosystem, the decision signals a meaningful shift in strategy as it looks to remain competitive while managing its cost base.
