Bitcoin recovers toward $77,300 as zcash leverage unwinds

By Diego Whitfield · · 1 min read

Bitcoin edged back toward $77,300 on Thursday, recovering some ground as a bout of leveraged selling in zcash appeared to ease across cryptocurrency markets.

Bitcoin Steadies

The largest cryptocurrency by market value climbed roughly 0.7% since midnight UTC, trading around $77,200. The modest bounce came as traders digested a volatile stretch that had rattled several altcoins in recent sessions.

The rebound suggests some stabilization after a period of pressure that touched much of the digital asset market. While the move higher was measured rather than dramatic, it pointed to renewed appetite among buyers at current levels.

A quiet recovery in bitcoin often speaks louder than a violent rally.

Zcash Leverage Unwinds

Much of the market's recent turbulence was tied to zcash, where a heavy build-up of leveraged positions had contributed to sharp price swings. As that leverage unwound, some of the selling pressure that had spilled into the broader market began to dissipate.

The reduction in forced liquidations helped create a calmer backdrop for bitcoin and other major tokens, allowing prices to firm up rather than extend their declines.

Broader Market Mixed

The CoinDesk 100 index, which tracks a basket of leading digital assets, remained down 1.4% over the previous 24 hours despite the intraday improvement. Even so, 68 of the index's 100 constituents posted gains, signaling that the recovery was fairly broad-based.

  • Bitcoin rose about 0.7% since midnight UTC
  • 68 of 100 CoinDesk 100 constituents advanced
  • The index was still 1.4% lower over 24 hours

The split picture underscores how quickly sentiment can shift in crypto markets, with a majority of tokens rising even as the headline index lagged on a rolling daily basis.
