Bitcoin could bottom in October, altcoins are ‘basically dead,’ Swan CEO says

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Bitcoin may find its market bottom as soon as October, according to Swan Bitcoin CEO Cory Klippsten, who also delivered a stark verdict on the broader crypto market, describing altcoins as "basically dead."

A Potential October Bottom

Klippsten suggested that Bitcoin could reach its cyclical low roughly a year after its previous all-time high, placing the potential floor around October. His timeline draws on historical patterns of Bitcoin's market cycles, which have often seen prices bottom out roughly 12 months after peaking before beginning a fresh climb.

The Swan CEO's framing offers a note of cautious optimism for long-term holders, implying that any near-term weakness could set the stage for the next phase of recovery. Still, timing market bottoms remains notoriously difficult, and past cycles are no guarantee of future performance.

"Altcoins are basically dead," Klippsten said, casting doubt on the future of most tokens beyond Bitcoin.

A Dim View of Altcoins

Klippsten's assessment of altcoins was blunt. In his view, the thousands of alternative tokens competing for investor attention have largely failed to prove durable value, leaving Bitcoin as the standout asset in the digital currency space.

He argued that the strongest path forward for crypto is to become integrated into traditional finance, or TradFi, rather than positioning itself as a rival system. Under that scenario, Bitcoin and blockchain technology would find their place within established financial infrastructure rather than replacing it.

  • Crypto's best outcome may be integration with traditional finance

What It Means for Investors

The comments reflect a growing school of thought among Bitcoin advocates who see the flagship cryptocurrency diverging from the rest of the market. For supporters of this view, Bitcoin's simplicity and fixed supply set it apart from the sprawling ecosystem of altcoins.

Whether the market follows Klippsten's projected timeline remains to be seen. As always, investors should weigh such forecasts against broader macroeconomic conditions and the inherent volatility of digital assets before making decisions.
