XRP Holders Can Now Trade Options Using Flare’s FXRP as Collateral

By Malik Sokolov · · 1 min read

XRP holders now have a new way to put their tokens to work in decentralized finance, as options trading platform Derive has integrated Flare's FXRP token, allowing users to hedge or speculate without handing their assets to a centralized exchange.

A New Path for XRP in DeFi

The integration lets XRP holders convert their tokens into FXRP, a wrapped version of the asset that operates within the Flare network, and use it as collateral for options trades on Derive. For a community that has traditionally had limited access to on-chain financial products, the move opens a door to more sophisticated strategies.

Options give traders the ability to bet on price direction or protect existing positions against volatility. By enabling XRP-backed collateral, the partnership brings those tools to a token that has historically sat outside much of the DeFi ecosystem.

XRP holders can finally hedge and speculate without surrendering custody of their tokens.

Keeping Custody Out of Centralized Hands

The core appeal of the arrangement is that users retain control over their assets rather than depositing them with a centralized exchange. That distinction matters to holders wary of counterparty risk, especially after high-profile collapses in recent years underscored the dangers of trusting third parties with custody.

Flare's FXRP acts as the bridge that makes this possible, representing XRP value on a smart-contract-capable network where it can interact with decentralized applications like Derive.

Key features of the integration include:

  • Using FXRP as collateral for options positions
  • The ability to hedge against XRP price swings
  • Speculative trading without a centralized intermediary
  • Self-custody of underlying assets throughout

The collaboration reflects a broader push to expand XRP's utility beyond simple holding and transfers, tapping into the growing appetite for decentralized derivatives among crypto investors.
