Winklevoss-Backed Cypherpunk Launches 'World's Largest' Zcash Mining Fleet

By Diego Whitfield · · 1 min read

Cypherpunk Technologies, the Nasdaq-listed privacy-focused firm, has unveiled what it calls the world's largest Zcash mining operation, backed by a $33.33 million equity investment from Winklevoss Capital.

A New Mining Venture Takes Shape

The company announced the launch of Cypherpunk Mining, a division built specifically around accumulating Zcash. The initiative arrives via a financing arrangement with the investment vehicle run by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the twins best known for founding the Gemini exchange.

The freshly deployed fleet reportedly commands roughly 18% of the Zcash network's total hashrate, positioning Cypherpunk as a dominant force in mining the privacy coin. That level of computing power gives the firm a substantial share of newly minted ZCH tokens.

Controlling nearly a fifth of a network's hashrate places Cypherpunk among the most influential players in Zcash mining.

Building a Privacy-Coin Treasury

The mining push is designed to feed Cypherpunk's broader treasury strategy. Rather than simply buying Zcash on the open market, the company intends to mine the asset directly, potentially lowering its cost of acquisition while steadily expanding its holdings.

The strategy reflects a growing trend among publicly traded firms that build corporate treasuries around specific digital assets. By pairing mining infrastructure with an equity raise, Cypherpunk aims to accelerate accumulation without relying solely on cash purchases.

Key elements of the announcement include:

  • A $33.33 million equity deal with Winklevoss Capital
  • A mining fleet representing about 18% of Zcash's hashrate
  • A treasury model centered on directly mined ZCH

The involvement of the Winklevoss brothers lends notable weight to the effort, tying one of crypto's most recognizable names to the privacy coin's ecosystem as Cypherpunk works to scale its ambitions.
