U.S. Bank has completed a live cross-border payment using its own proprietary stablecoin, marking one of the latest moves by a major American lender into digital-asset settlement. The pilot moved the bank's USBDC token between its North American and European entities on the public Stellar blockchain.

The transaction saw U.S. Bank transfer value internally, sending USBDC from its North American arm to its European counterpart. By routing the payment over Stellar, a public blockchain designed for fast, low-cost transfers, the bank tested how a bank-issued stablecoin could streamline international movement of funds.

Cross-border payments have long been a target for blockchain-based solutions because traditional correspondent banking can be slow and costly. A tokenized dollar settling on a public ledger promises near-instant transfers with reduced friction, potentially trimming settlement times from days to minutes.
