Trump Media’s bitcoin stash may be down to loan collateral after $165 million BTC move

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Trump Media & Technology Group's on-chain bitcoin holdings appear to have shrunk to roughly the amount the company previously earmarked as loan collateral, following a series of transfers worth about $165 million to Crypto.com, raising fresh questions about whether the moves represent routine custody shifts or actual sales.

What the Blockchain Data Shows

Wallets linked to the parent company of Truth Social now hold approximately the same quantity of bitcoin that the firm had earlier pledged as collateral for its convertible notes. The reduction became apparent after the recent transfers of digital assets to Crypto.com, a move that has drawn scrutiny from blockchain observers tracking the company's treasury activity.

The ambiguity stems from the nature of on-chain transactions. Sending bitcoin to an exchange or custodial platform does not automatically mean those coins have been liquidated. Companies frequently move assets between wallets and custodians for security, rebalancing, or administrative reasons.

The next quarterly filing will reveal whether these transfers were simple custody changes or genuine sell-offs.

Why the 10-Q Matters

The decisive answer is expected to come from Trump Media's upcoming 10-Q filing with securities regulators. That document should clarify how much bitcoin the company still controls and whether any of it was sold to raise cash or was simply repositioned with a new custodian.

Trump Media had built a substantial bitcoin position as part of a broader digital asset treasury strategy, positioning the crypto holdings alongside its media operations. The apparent drawdown to collateral-only levels marks a notable shift in that stance.

Key points investors are watching include:

  • Whether the transferred bitcoin was sold or merely moved to custody
  • How much bitcoin remains beyond the amount tied to note collateral
  • Any disclosures about changes to the company's treasury strategy

Until the filing arrives, the interpretation of the transfers remains open. For a company whose stock is closely tied to political sentiment and crypto exposure, the coming disclosure could meaningfully influence how markets view its balance sheet.
