Tom Lee's Bitmine Buys $131M of ETH in Largest Ethereum Purchase Since June

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Bitmine Immersion Technologies has scooped up roughly $131 million worth of Ethereum, marking its largest single acquisition of the asset since June, as chairman Tom Lee highlights a robust close to the third quarter for the crypto market.

A Growing Ethereum War Chest

The latest buy pushes Bitmine's total Ethereum holdings to approximately 5.9 million ETH, a stash that now represents around 4.9% of the cryptocurrency's entire circulating supply. That concentration cements the company's position as one of the most aggressive corporate accumulators of the second-largest digital asset.

The purchase stands out not only for its size but for its timing, arriving as Ethereum and the broader market posted strong gains through the third quarter. For Bitmine, the acquisition continues a strategy of steadily building an outsized treasury position in ETH rather than Bitcoin.

Nearly 5% of all Ethereum in existence now sits in a single company's treasury.

Lee Points to a Strong Quarter

Tom Lee, the well-known market strategist who chairs Bitmine, has framed the buy against a backdrop of crypto's solid performance in recent months. His optimism reflects a bet that Ethereum's momentum will carry forward, justifying the firm's continued accumulation.

The move underscores a wider trend of publicly traded companies adopting digital assets as core treasury holdings. While many corporate buyers have focused on Bitcoin, Bitmine's Ethereum-centric approach sets it apart in the growing field of crypto treasury firms.

Key details of the acquisition include:

  • A purchase of roughly $131 million in ETH
  • Total holdings now near 5.9 million ETH
  • A stake equal to about 4.9% of Ethereum's supply
  • The largest single ETH buy for Bitmine since June

As the quarter closes on a high note, Bitmine's expanding position leaves the company deeply tied to Ethereum's fortunes heading into the final stretch of the year.
