Tether-backed Twenty One, Strike merger plan scrapped: Bloomberg

By Diego Whitfield · · 1 min read

A proposed three-way merger involving Bitcoin financial firm Strike, Tether-backed Twenty One Capital and Elektron has been called off, according to a report from Bloomberg. Strike will now continue operating as an independent company, while the two remaining parties reportedly press ahead with their own discussions.

What Fell Through

The deal, which would have combined three players in the digital asset space, has been abandoned before reaching completion. Bloomberg's reporting indicates that Strike opted to remain standalone rather than fold into a larger merged entity.

The move leaves Strike, best known for its Bitcoin payments and financial services, charting its own course. The company has built a reputation around Bitcoin-focused offerings and appears positioned to continue that strategy without the complications of a multi-party corporate combination.

The collapse of the three-way tie-up leaves Strike free to pursue its own path in the Bitcoin economy.

Twenty One and Elektron Continue Talks

While Strike has stepped away, Twenty One Capital and Elektron are said to be continuing their conversations. Twenty One Capital carries backing from Tether, the issuer of the largest stablecoin by market capitalization, giving the venture significant heft in the crypto sector.

The persistence of talks between the two remaining companies suggests that at least part of the original vision may still materialize, albeit in a different configuration than initially proposed.

Key points from the reported developments include:

  • Strike will remain an independent, standalone company
  • The proposed three-way merger has been scrapped
  • Twenty One Capital and Elektron are said to still be in discussions
  • Twenty One Capital is backed by stablecoin giant Tether

The unwinding of the merger underscores how corporate combinations in the fast-moving crypto industry can shift quickly, even among well-capitalized and closely watched participants.
