South Korea trading giant puts receivables onchain in tokenization test with LG CNS

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

POSCO International, one of South Korea's largest trading conglomerates, has begun tokenizing live commercial invoices in a pilot project alongside technology firm LG CNS, marking another step in the growing adoption of blockchain infrastructure within corporate finance.

Bringing Trade Finance Onchain

The initiative sees POSCO International's real-world trade receivables placed onto the Injective network, a blockchain built with financial applications in mind. Rather than testing hypothetical scenarios, the companies are working with actual commercial invoices, giving the trial immediate practical weight.

Trade receivables represent money owed to a company for goods or services already delivered. By moving these assets onto a distributed ledger, the partners aim to streamline settlement processes, improve transparency and unlock new financing opportunities for businesses that traditionally wait weeks or months for payment.

Live invoices, not laboratory experiments, are now flowing through blockchain rails in one of Asia's biggest trading houses.

LG CNS, the IT services arm of the LG Group, is providing the technical backbone for the project. The collaboration reflects a broader push among established corporations to explore how tokenization can modernize legacy financial systems.

A Wider Shift Toward Tokenization

The pilot underscores a rising trend in which real-world assets — from bonds and funds to invoices and commodities — are being represented as digital tokens on blockchain networks. Financial institutions and corporations around the globe have increasingly turned to the technology in search of efficiency gains and faster access to liquidity.

For South Korea, the move signals that tokenization is advancing beyond the domain of crypto-native firms and into the country's industrial and trading sectors. POSCO International's involvement lends significant credibility, given its scale and central role in global commerce.

Key aspects of the effort include:

  • Tokenizing genuine commercial invoices rather than test data
  • Deploying on the Injective network, designed for financial use cases
  • Combining POSCO's trade expertise with LG CNS's technical capabilities

If successful, the trial could pave the way for broader adoption of onchain trade finance tools, offering businesses quicker settlement and expanded funding channels while demonstrating that blockchain rails are steadily embedding themselves into mainstream corporate operations.
