Revolut Launches Euro-Pegged EURR Stablecoin

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Fintech giant Revolut has entered the stablecoin market with the launch of EURR, a euro-pegged digital token now available to a select group of customers across parts of Europe.

A Measured Rollout

EURR has gone live for a limited pool of Revolut users in Denmark, Poland and Portugal, marking the company's initial step into issuing its own digital currency. Rather than opening the token to its entire customer base at once, Revolut is taking a phased approach, allowing it to test performance and compliance within a controlled environment before any broader expansion.

The move signals the neobank's ambition to carve out a stake in the fast-growing stablecoin sector, where established players and traditional finance firms alike are racing to offer tokens tied to fiat currencies.

Revolut's euro stablecoin puts a major fintech name squarely into a market long dominated by dollar-pegged tokens.

Reserves and Backing

The reserves backing EURR are being held by a Luxembourg-based subsidiary of payments company Stripe, adding an institutional layer to the token's structure. Placing the reserves with an established payments firm is intended to reinforce trust in the token's stability and its one-to-one peg to the euro.

By anchoring EURR to the euro, Revolut is positioning the token as an alternative to the many dollar-denominated stablecoins that currently dominate global trading volumes. A credible euro-pegged option could appeal to European users seeking to transact and settle in their home currency.

Key details of the launch include:

  • Availability limited to select customers in Denmark, Poland and Portugal
  • A euro peg rather than the more common dollar peg
  • Reserves managed by a Luxembourg subsidiary of Stripe

What It Means

The launch reflects the growing convergence between traditional fintech firms and the crypto industry, as companies with large user bases look to stablecoins for payments, transfers and settlement. For Revolut, which serves millions of customers across Europe, a proprietary stablecoin could deepen its role in digital finance.

As regulatory frameworks for stablecoins continue to take shape across the European Union, Revolut's controlled rollout suggests a cautious strategy aimed at aligning with evolving rules while establishing an early foothold in the euro stablecoin space.
