Polymarket Launches Crypto Perpetual Futures With Up to 20x Leverage

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Polymarket, the prediction market platform best known for letting users bet on real-world events, has moved into derivatives trading with the launch of a new perpetual futures product offering leverage of up to 20x on certain crypto markets.

A Rapid Expansion on Day One

The new offering, dubbed Perps, saw explosive growth on its debut. According to the company, the product scaled from an initial slate of 10 markets to 67 within its first day of operation, signaling strong early demand from traders looking to speculate on cryptocurrency price movements.

Not every market comes with the same terms. The headline 20x leverage ceiling applies only to a subset of the available contracts, meaning traders cannot uniformly amplify their positions across the board. Leverage caps vary depending on the specific market being traded.

The launch marks Polymarket's most aggressive push yet beyond its roots in event-based prediction betting.

Who Can Actually Trade It

The expansion into perpetual futures represents a notable strategic shift for a platform that built its reputation on binary outcome wagers, from elections to sporting events. Perpetual futures, a staple of crypto derivatives exchanges, allow traders to hold leveraged positions indefinitely without an expiry date.

However, the product carries a significant restriction: it is not accessible to traders based in the United States. Polymarket has faced regulatory scrutiny in its home market for years, and the geographic limitation keeps the new derivatives offering out of reach for American users.

Key points from the rollout include:

  • Perps grew from 10 to 67 markets on launch day
  • Maximum leverage of 20x applies only to select markets
  • U.S. traders remain excluded from the product

The move places Polymarket in more direct competition with established crypto derivatives venues, even as it navigates the regulatory hurdles that continue to shape where and how it can operate.
