Morgan Stanley Launches Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana Trading on E*Trade

By Diego Whitfield · · 1 min read

Morgan Stanley has opened cryptocurrency trading to eligible customers of its E*Trade platform, allowing users to buy, sell, and hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana directly through the brokerage.

A Major Wall Street Firm Embraces Crypto

The rollout marks a significant step for one of the largest names in traditional finance, bringing direct digital asset trading to retail investors on a mainstream brokerage platform. Eligible E*Trade customers can now access the three tokens without needing to open accounts with dedicated crypto exchanges.

The trading service is powered by Zero Hash, a firm that provides the underlying infrastructure for settlement and custody. By partnering with an established crypto operator, Morgan Stanley avoids building the technical backbone from scratch while offering customers a familiar interface.

Wall Street's embrace of digital assets is no longer a question of if, but how quickly.

What It Means for Investors

The move reflects the broader shift among legacy financial institutions toward integrating cryptocurrencies into their product offerings. As regulatory clarity improves and client demand grows, banks and brokerages have raced to add digital asset services to remain competitive.

For E*Trade users, the appeal lies in consolidation. Instead of juggling multiple platforms, customers can manage their crypto holdings alongside stocks, bonds, and other traditional investments in a single account.

The initial lineup focuses on three of the most widely held cryptocurrencies:

  • Bitcoin, the largest digital asset by market value
  • Ethereum, the leading smart contract platform
  • Solana, a high-speed blockchain popular with developers

Whether Morgan Stanley expands the offering to additional tokens or new features will likely depend on customer uptake and the evolving regulatory landscape in the months ahead.
