London Stock Exchange partners with Kraken parent for tokenized UK stocks: FT

By Diego Whitfield · · 1 min read

The London Stock Exchange Group is teaming up with the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken to bring tokenized UK equities to market, according to a report from the Financial Times, marking another sign that traditional finance is warming to blockchain-based securities.

A Push Toward Round-the-Clock Trading

The partnership reportedly aims to give investors access to tokenized versions of UK-listed stocks, with trading available 24 hours a day, five days a week. That extended schedule stands in sharp contrast to the limited hours of conventional stock exchanges, and reflects the always-on nature of digital asset markets.

Tokenization involves representing ownership of an asset, such as a share in a company, as a digital token recorded on a blockchain. Advocates argue the approach can streamline settlement, cut costs, and open markets to a broader range of participants.

One of the world's oldest exchanges is betting that the future of stock trading runs on blockchain rails.

TradFi Embraces Tokenized Equities

The move places the London bourse among a growing list of established financial institutions exploring tokenized equity offerings. As competition intensifies, legacy players appear increasingly eager to stake out territory in a space long dominated by crypto-native firms.

For Kraken's parent company, the collaboration offers a foothold alongside one of the most recognizable names in global finance, potentially lending credibility to tokenized products aimed at mainstream investors.

Key aspects of the reported initiative include:

  • Tokenized exposure to UK-based equities
  • Trading availability on a 24/5 schedule
  • A partnership blending traditional market infrastructure with crypto expertise

The initiative underscores how tokenization has shifted from an experimental concept to a strategic priority for major exchanges and financial firms seeking to modernize how securities are issued and traded.
