The digital asset market opened 2026 on an aggressive footing, with total crypto capitalization rising another 2% to $3.22 trillion as institutional heavyweights deepened their involvement and traders monitored fresh geopolitical and technical developments.

Markets Climb Across the Board

Morgan Stanley filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed Solana Trust, joining the swelling lineup of institutional crypto products. Goldman Sachs upgraded Coinbase to a "Buy" rating while cutting its outlook on rival platform eToro.

When three of Wall Street's biggest names pivot toward crypto in the same window, the message is unmistakable: digital assets have gone mainstream.

Regulatory sentiment abroad is also shifting. Japan's finance minister voiced support for weaving crypto more tightly into the financial system, raising the prospect of tax reductions and exchange-level reforms.

On the development side, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin argued that the network has effectively resolved the long-standing "blockchain trilemma" — the challenge of balancing scalability, security, and decentralization simultaneously.
