Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit is preparing to launch a comprehensive financial "super-app" for European customers that will combine crypto trading with traditional assets like stocks and derivatives, according to CEO Ben Zhou.
A Broader Push Into Europe
Bybit, one of the world's largest crypto exchanges by trading volume, is expanding its footprint across the European market with an ambitious offering designed to bring multiple financial services under one roof. Zhou told Coindesk that the company aims to give users access to a wide array of products, moving well beyond digital assets into conventional markets.
The plan hinges on securing the proper regulatory approvals. Bybit already holds an electronic money institution license in Austria, and Zhou said the firm is close to obtaining a MiFID license as well, which would open the door to offering a fuller suite of regulated financial instruments across the European Union.
The goal is a single platform where Europeans can trade crypto, stocks, and derivatives side by side.
Regulation as the Foundation
The MiFID framework governs investment services throughout the EU and would allow Bybit to operate as a regulated provider of traditional financial products. Combined with its existing Austrian license, the approvals form the legal backbone of the company's European strategy.
For Bybit, the move reflects a growing trend among crypto exchanges seeking to blur the line between digital and traditional finance. By packaging stocks, derivatives, and crypto into one application, the exchange is positioning itself to compete not only with other crypto platforms but also with mainstream brokerages and fintech apps.
The super-app concept, popular in parts of Asia, aims to consolidate everyday financial activity into a single interface. Key elements of Bybit's European ambitions include:
- An Austrian electronic money institution license already in hand
- A MiFID license expected soon
- Trading access spanning crypto, equities, and derivatives
Should the licensing come through as planned, Bybit would join a small but expanding group of crypto firms building regulated, multi-asset platforms tailored to European users.
