Coinbase tokenized stocks go live on Base with Chainlink price feeds

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Coinbase has launched tokenized stocks on its Base network, using Chainlink price feeds to bring major equities such as Apple and Nvidia onchain for round-the-clock trading by eligible non-US users.

Stocks Come Onchain

The new B20 equities product allows tokenized versions of well-known company shares to trade directly on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network. By moving equities onto the blockchain, the exchange is opening the door to trading outside traditional market hours and enabling the assets to plug into decentralized finance applications.

Eligible users located outside the United States will be able to buy, sell, and hold these tokenized stocks 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That represents a departure from conventional equity markets, which operate only during set weekday hours.

Traditional stocks meet blockchain rails, promising trading that never sleeps.

The tokenized assets are also designed to be composable within DeFi, meaning holders could potentially use them across lending platforms, liquidity pools, and other onchain protocols rather than simply holding them in a brokerage account.

Chainlink Powers the Data

To keep the tokenized equities accurately priced, Coinbase is relying on Chainlink's decentralized oracle network to supply real-time price feeds. Reliable market data is essential for tokenized stocks, since their value must track the underlying shares to remain useful for trading and collateral purposes.

The integration highlights the growing role of oracle infrastructure in bridging traditional financial assets with blockchain systems. Accurate, tamper-resistant pricing is a core requirement for any real-world asset brought onchain.

Key features of the rollout include:

  • Tokenized versions of major stocks like Apple and Nvidia
  • Trading available around the clock for eligible non-US users
  • Chainlink price feeds supplying market data
  • Compatibility with DeFi applications on Base

The move adds to a broader industry push to tokenize real-world assets, as major exchanges and financial firms explore ways to bring equities, bonds, and other instruments onto public blockchains.
