Cash App users will soon be able to buy a wider range of cryptocurrencies, moving beyond the payment app's longtime focus on bitcoin and USD Coin, thanks to a new integration with crypto infrastructure firm MoonPay.
A Broader Menu of Digital Assets
Eligible Cash App customers will be able to tap their account balances to purchase digital assets offered through MoonPay, according to the announcement. That lineup includes ether, solana, and the stablecoin tether (USDT), significantly expanding the choices available to the app's user base.
Until now, Cash App had limited its native crypto offering to bitcoin, which it has supported for years, and USDC. The MoonPay partnership opens the door to a more diverse set of tokens without requiring users to leave the familiar Cash App environment.
The move signals Cash App's ambition to become a broader on-ramp for the crypto economy, not just a bitcoin wallet.
What the MoonPay Integration Means
MoonPay operates as a payments and infrastructure provider that lets platforms embed crypto buying and selling into their own products. By plugging into MoonPay, Cash App can offer additional tokens while leaning on a third party to handle much of the underlying transaction machinery.
The expansion reflects a growing trend among mainstream fintech apps to widen their crypto features as consumer demand for digital assets continues. Offering access to major assets like ether and solana, alongside a widely used stablecoin, positions Cash App to compete more directly with dedicated crypto exchanges.
Key assets becoming available through the integration include:
- Ether, the native token of the Ethereum network
- Solana, a popular high-speed blockchain token
- Tether (USDT), one of the largest stablecoins by market value
For everyday users, the practical upshot is the ability to buy these assets using existing Cash App balances, streamlining the process for those already comfortable with the platform.
