BTC supply in profit eyes 60%, but analysis hints recovery may ‘roll back over’

By Diego Whitfield · · 2 min read

Bitcoin's on-chain profitability metrics have staged a modest rebound from recent lows, but market analysts are cautioning that the recovery may prove fragile, with warning signs suggesting prices could reverse course once again.

Supply in Profit Climbs Back

The share of Bitcoin's circulating supply held at a profit has recovered notably from the depths it reached at its 2026 low, according to recent on-chain data. The metric, which tracks the percentage of coins whose last movement occurred at a price below current market levels, is now approaching the 60% threshold.

That rebound offers a degree of relief for holders who watched their positions slide underwater during the earlier downturn. When a larger portion of supply sits in profit, it can signal renewed confidence and reduce the selling pressure that often accompanies periods of widespread losses.

The bounce looks encouraging on paper, but the underlying structure may not be as solid as it appears.

Still, the improvement should be viewed in context. A recovery in profitability figures does not, on its own, guarantee that a sustainable uptrend is underway, and traders remain wary of reading too much into a single metric.

Analysts Warn of a Potential Reversal

Despite the encouraging numbers, some analysts have flagged the possibility that the current recovery could "roll back over," echoing a pattern seen earlier in the cycle. Commentary pointed to a false recovery that had already broken down at the start of June, raising concerns that history could repeat itself.

The worry is that what looks like a genuine rebound may instead be a temporary relief rally within a broader corrective phase. If buying momentum fails to hold, the improved profitability picture could quickly deteriorate as coins slip back into loss.

Key factors traders are watching include:

  • Whether supply in profit can decisively clear the 60% mark
  • The durability of buying pressure at current levels
  • Signs of another breakdown similar to the early-June episode

For now, the market sits at a crossroads, with the profitability recovery offering hope while cautionary signals urge restraint before declaring the downturn over.
