BitMine Immersion Technologies is closing in on holding nearly 5% of all circulating Ether, continuing an aggressive accumulation strategy even as its massive position sits deeply underwater amid the broader crypto market downturn.
Buying Through the Bear Market
The Ethereum treasury company, led by prominent market strategist Tom Lee, has continued to add to its holdings despite facing more than $8.4 billion in unrealized losses. Rather than pulling back during the price slump, BitMine has doubled down, steadily expanding its stockpile of the second-largest cryptocurrency.
The firm now holds close to 5.82 million ETH, positioning it as one of the largest corporate holders of the asset. Its approach mirrors a growing trend of publicly traded companies treating Ether as a core treasury reserve, similar to how some firms have accumulated Bitcoin.
Even sitting on billions in paper losses, BitMine is betting that patience will outweigh short-term price pain.
Staking Rewards Cushion the Blow
A significant portion of BitMine's holdings is put to work through staking, which helps offset some of the financial pressure from the market decline. More than 5 million of the company's staked ETH is projected to generate roughly $287 million in annual rewards.
These staking yields provide a recurring revenue stream that can partly counterbalance the unrealized losses on the balance sheet. For treasury companies, the ability to earn passive income on idle assets has become a central pillar of the Ethereum accumulation thesis.
Key figures behind BitMine's position include:
- Holdings approaching 5% of Ethereum's total circulating supply
- Roughly 5.82 million ETH accumulated to date
- More than $8.4 billion in unrealized losses during the downturn
- An estimated $287 million in projected annual staking rewards
The company's continued buying signals confidence in Ether's long-term prospects, even as near-term price action tests the conviction of investors and corporate holders alike.
