BitMEX Co-Founder Ben Delo Gives Farage's Reform UK Another £4 Million

By Diego Whitfield · · 1 min read

BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo has handed Nigel Farage's Reform UK an additional £4 million, cementing his position as one of the party's most significant financial backers as it looks to build momentum ahead of future electoral contests.

A Dominant Donor

The crypto billionaire's contribution came via two separate payments made in April, which together accounted for roughly three-quarters of all donations Reform UK received during the quarter. The scale of Delo's support dwarfed every other contribution to the party during the period.

To put the figure in context, the next largest single donation recorded for the quarter stood at just £180,000 — a fraction of the sum provided by the BitMEX co-founder. That gap underscores how heavily Reform UK's finances have come to rely on a small number of high-value benefactors.

One donor supplied three-quarters of a political party's funding in a single quarter.

Who Is Ben Delo?

Delo helped establish the cryptocurrency derivatives exchange BitMEX and became known as one of Britain's wealthiest self-made figures in the digital asset industry. His fortune stems from the platform's rise during the early boom in crypto trading.

His donations to Reform UK add to a growing relationship between the party and figures from the cryptocurrency world, reflecting a broader trend of digital asset wealth flowing into political causes. For Reform UK, the injection of capital provides crucial resources as it seeks to expand its organizational footprint and campaign infrastructure.

The concentration of funding from a single source, however, raises familiar questions about the influence individual donors can wield over political parties. With Delo now responsible for such a large share of Reform UK's recent income, his continued backing could prove pivotal to the party's financial health going forward.
