Crypto custody firm BitGo and financial data provider OTC Markets Group are teaming up to bring tokenized securities trading to traditional broker-dealers, potentially opening a new gateway between digital assets and regulated equity markets.
What the Partnership Entails
The proposed alliance aims to give more than 150 broker-dealers the ability to trade and settle digital asset securities directly through OTC Markets' OTC Link ATS, an alternative trading system. Under the arrangement, BitGo would supply the custody infrastructure needed to safeguard the underlying tokenized assets, while OTC Markets would provide the trading and settlement rails already familiar to established market participants.
By combining custody with an existing regulated venue, the two firms hope to lower the barriers that have kept many traditional financial institutions from engaging with blockchain-based securities. The setup would allow broker-dealers to interact with tokenized instruments without having to build their own digital asset handling systems from scratch.
Tokenized securities are inching closer to the mainstream as custody providers and regulated venues join forces.
Why It Matters
Tokenization has emerged as one of the more closely watched trends in finance, with proponents arguing that representing traditional assets on a blockchain can speed up settlement, cut costs, and broaden access. Bridging that technology to a network of established broker-dealers could accelerate adoption among firms that already operate within existing regulatory frameworks.
The move reflects a broader push by crypto infrastructure companies to court institutional players rather than retail traders alone. BitGo, known primarily for its custody services, has been expanding its footprint across the digital asset industry, while OTC Markets brings a well-established base of professional trading participants.
Key elements of the planned collaboration include:
- Access for over 150 broker-dealers to digital asset securities
- Trading and settlement handled through OTC Link ATS
- Custody infrastructure provided by BitGo
If realized, the partnership could serve as a template for how tokenized securities reach regulated markets, blending crypto-native custody solutions with the trading systems that traditional finance already relies on.
