Cryptocurrency markets eased into the final days of 2025 on a decidedly calm note, with Bitcoin changing hands near $87,000 and holding a 59% share of the overall market. Instead of dramatic swings, the tail end of the year delivered relative stability, offering traders a chance to regroup ahead of what many anticipate will be a lively 2026.

The largest altcoins tracked Bitcoin's steady tone. Ethereum lingered around $2,975, BNB ticked up to roughly $855, and Solana held its ground near $124. The muted price movement, however, concealed a flurry of institutional deals and corporate buying quietly reshaping the sector.

Institutions Keep Stacking

The flat price charts masked aggressive maneuvering from some of the industry's heaviest hitters. Tom Lee reportedly picked up around $130 million in Ethereum over the holiday stretch, all while keeping close to $1 billion in cash reserves parked on the sidelines as the calendar turned.

Traditional finance kept advancing its tokenization ambitions. BlackRock's tokenized offering, BUIDL, climbed past $2 billion in total assets and surpassed $100 million in cumulative dividend payments — a marker of intensifying demand for onchain representations of conventional financial instruments.

Institutional momentum showed no sign of easing, with treasury firms and asset managers loading up even as prices drifted sideways.

Corporate treasury plays stayed active too. Metaplanet added another 4,279 Bitcoin to its books, pushing its holdings to 35,102 BTC and reinforcing its reputation as one of the most aggressive corporate accumulators in the space.

Risk appetite remained robust in derivatives markets, where onchain perpetual futures volume cleared $1 trillion over the month as traders chased leverage.
